THOUSAND OAKS, CA — The Los Angeles Rams continued to strengthen their offense on Day 2 of the NFL Draft as they selected Florida wide receiver Van Jefferson with their 59th pick. With the departure of receiver Brandin Cooks in trade to the Houston Texans, the most intelligent pick was Jefferson who is a football technician.
The 23 year old wide receiver is excited to be drafted by the Rams and was completely surprised when he received the phone call from the organization.
“The last interaction I had with them was at the combine actually,” Jefferson said on a video call with the media call. “We had an informal meeting and I was meeting with the receiver coach and I kind of got a good feeling from him. I didn’t think that they would be a team that was interested in me, but it’s something that you just don’t know.
“I didn’t have a FaceTime meeting with them throughout the whole process, so I didn’t know that there was interest.”
Jefferson is an sharpest route runner in the draft next to Broncos Jerry Juedy in this year’s draft. He is excited to be able to pick the brains of his new teammates such as Jared Goff, the wide receiver core and live in the city that happens to be opening up a $5 billion new stadium.
“I’ve never been to L.A., so I’m excited to be there,” Jefferson exclaimed. “Excited to learn from guys like Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods, and I can’t wait to get out there.”
The Rams had a productive day two with not only securing Jefferson and Cam Akers, but other position players such as OLB Terrell Lewis, S Terrell Burgees, TE Brycen Hopkins, S Jordan Fuller, LB Clay Johnston, K Samuel Sloman, G Tremayne Anchrum.
