THOUSAND OAKS, CA — Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey wants to do one thing — play football in Los Angeles for the 2020 season. In the media it’s our job to ask questions and often times the tough questions in order to inform our various audiences, but not to annoy.
On a Tuesday morning Ramsey was available on a media zoom call, and got eventually fed up after receiving too many question regarding contract negotiations between him and the Rams.
He was initially asked about the future of his contract where he responded, “I’m worried about what I can worry about. I’m controlling what I can control.”
After three attempts at asking Ramsey the status of his future contract, he firmly responded, “I answered it: I said my agent and the front office, they gonna handle it,” Ramsey said. “I’m worried about what I can worry about, I’m controlling what I can control… Either accept the answer or keep it pushing. I don’t want to be disrespectful, but that’s the answer.”
Frustrated and growing tired of the same type of questions asked, Ramsey got up and walked off the media session. He later returned but made sure his point was understand by all media members on the video chat.
“I told y’all at the beginning of this, I said I’m controlling what I can control and when you asked me the question about my contract, I said I’m letting my agent, who is by far the best agent in the game, David Mulugheta, and the front office handle it,” Ramsey said. “I can’t do anything about it. I’m not worried about it. I’m trying to do my job as a football player. I’m trying to be a leader on the team, I’m not gonna do every Zoom session or however we gonna do them this year, talking about my contract. Look, if it comes, it comes. It’s gonna be a surprise to me like it’s gonna be a surprise to y’all …”
Ramsey is set to have an electrifying season, being an elite cornerback can help defensive teammates like Aaron Donald and others get to the quarterback more often.
The Rams being the classy organization has never leaked out information on contract terms during negotiations, and GM Les Snead made that abundantly clear earlier in the week regarding Ramsey’s and several other players deals. Snead said he’d like to keep the details intimate.
“We do have a very healthy relationship with, specifically… with Jalen’s agent, David Mulugheta. He’s a great agent,” Snead added.
Ramsey is focused on this season and playing his best to help make the Rams successful on the field, what happened off the field he’ll leave that up to his agent and the organization. In other words, let Ramsey focus on football!
